There are several Non Governmental Organisations (N.G.O’s) operating in Katanga.
Some of the larger ones include World Vision and the International Rescue Commitee.
The Churches are invovled in development and social programmes particularly the Catholic Church, the Anglican Church (BDC Anglican), Methodists (UMCOR), Garganganze and Pentecostal Churches. The Rotary Club have 2 groups meeting in Lubumbashi.
The United Nations (U.N.) have a presence in Lubumbashi although it is relatively small in comparison to other parts of D.R.C. Departments include U.N.H.C.R., The WFP and M.O.N.E.S.C.U. The U.N. operate a very effective and impartial Congolese news service called Radio Okapi, named after those rather mythical, rare and shy animals only found in the rainforests to the north of the D.R.Congo. Radio Okapi have a radio station and website www.radiookapi.net. They have their headquarters in the capital Kinshasa and a regional office in Lubumbashi.
